The Clash, live at Bonds International Casino, New York, 13th June 1981

The Clash booked a series of shows at Bonds in '81, only to find that the venue was smaller than thought and hopelessly over sold. So they arranged another set of dates to let all those wishing to see them do so safely. The 9th of June show is widely circulated, so I thought this would be a nice gig to publish today, one fof those bonus shows. Enjoy!

Téléphone, live at Melun Salle des Fêtes, 09 January 1981

Téléphone, were a four piece French rock band, with an early spot for what is now an almost obligitary female bass player in Corine Marienneau. I think the only other ones who existed at this time were Tina Weymouth (Talking Heads), Suzi Quattro, and Kim Gordon (Sonic Youth).

They existed for ten years, 1976 to 1986, and released five studio albums, with this performance falling between the fourth and fith, Au Cœur De La Nuit (In The Heart of the Night) and Dure Limite (Hard Limit). With a traditional rock & roll sound with a little punk thrown in for good measure (punk was little more than r&r stripped back anyway), they were rather famous at the end of the '70's, gaining themselves a support slot on a Rolling Stones world tour. Not too shabby at all.

This bootleg does have a bit of hiss and warble here and there, as it's from an old cassette of course, which at times is a bit annoying but far from unlistenable (I wouldn't post it if it was!).
