Coming out of the Alternative underground, I guess you'd say they were closer to Punk than any other genre at the time, the Buttholes built themselves a core fanbase in venues like L.A.s Whisky A Go Go in the early eighties. Sonic Youth, VPRO Radio broadcasts, Eindhoven 87, Amsterdam 89, Rotterdam 91

This is a collection of broadcasts from the Dutch VPRO station I've put together, all good quality (i.e. very little to no static), and with a great set of tracks. The recording dates and venues are as follows:

Tracks 01-06 Effenar Eindhoven 14th June 1987
Tracks 07-13 Paradisio Amsterdam 26th March 1989
Tracks 14-20 De Doelen Rotterdam 1st September 1991

It's very doubtful the first 6 songs are in the correct order as the Effenar show has two different sources; The first is FM (1-2), while the second is Pre-FM (the CD/Tape that a radio station plays). Enjoy!

I've not seen alot of La's soundboard shows floating about, in fact only this one, but then I don't obsessively track them down. Obviously, as there was only one album, great though it may be, they could only do so long a concert without repeating themselves, hence we get three songs repeated here. Mark continues to be one of my all time favourite rock singers, and does't seem to put a foot wrong (or at least too wrong) in his many, many musical projects. Here are the demos from his fraught recording sessions which were to become the basis of his second solo album Whiskey For The Holy Ghost. At the time he was having some fairly major substance issues, and the producer had to stop Mark from tossing these into the river. So be very thankfull people! ;-)
