Jeff Buckley - New York 1997

jeff buckley, live, arlenes grocery, new york, audience, 1997

Jeff Buckley, live at Arlenes Grocery, New York, 9th February 1997

Arlenes is a little venue on the Lower East Side of New York City, which, as the name suggests, used to be a grocery store. On this occasion, Jeff Buckley and band turned out to test a few new songs, the first time they were played in public, and despite a rough voice due to smoking, something Jeff refers to continually, this is a really great show. Enjoy!

John Frusciante - Kentucky 1997

john frusciante, live, audience, kentucky, unreleased, 1997

John Frusciante, live in Kentucky, April 1997

Recorded in an unknown location on an unknown date, very handy that, and sadly nowhere near a complete show. That aside, there are some rather rare tracks here. Two of the songs are unreleased John compositions, tentatively titled by fans probably, and another is a cover of Nirvana's Moist Vagina, b-side to the also snappily titled Rape Me. Enjoy!

The Seahorses - Dublin 1997

the seahorses, john squire, live, soundboard, fm, 1997

The Seahorses, live at Dublin Castle, 3rd May 1997

John Squire is probably the last of the guitar heros to emerge, Jonny Greenwood aside, from this little island, and one of the guys who's riffs I emulated when learning to play. He was the first of the Stone Roses to get back out into the music scene when he placed the above advert in a Manchester paper, hiring busker Chris Helme for the role after a friend saw him busking outside a branch of the now defunct Woolworths store. They only released one album, citing the usual 'musical differences' before splitting, though the sessions for the second are out there (I think I may have an MP3 copy somewhere). Anyway, enjoy!

ben folds five, live, audience, cats cradle, carrboro, 1997

Ben Folds Five, live at Cat's Cradle, Carrboro N.C., 11th November 1997

Recorded in their home state, I'd imagine at the end of '97's tour supporting the release of Whatever and Ever Amen, this is a quality little BFF bootleg. For me personally, there's hardly a spare track in this show, but then my favourite Five albums were the first two, and you have the bonus of the encore cover version. Please do enjoy!

Elliott Smith - Live at the Terrace Club 1997

elliott smith, terrace club, live, soundboard

Elliott Smith, Terrace Club Princeton University, 12th April 1997

Elliott wrote alot about his demons and what they drove him to, primarily depression, drugs and drink. It is these that were thought to have led him to commit suicide in 2003, though the evidence of his apparent suicide were inconclusive, and many fans thought perhaps it wasn't suicide due to him dying of two stab wounds to the chest. If it was, then he was pretty damned determined to do it that's for sure!

This performance is taken from his tour in support of his third release Either/Or, though the songs he played were taken from across his albums to this point. The show includes two covers; one he'd recorded during the either/or sessions, yet didn't release (though it did see the light of day on a couple of soundtracks), Big Stars song Thirteen, and Waterloo Sunset by The Kinks.
