john cale - new york 78

John Cale, live at CBGB's, New York, 27th December 1978

I've posted a couple of gigs from the CBGB's club over the past couple of weeks, and here's another nice one to add to that run, multi-instrumentalist/singer/producer/Welshman John Cale, founder member of The Velvet Underground. This show was recorded during probably his most loved recording period, and although Helen of Troy was released by Island Records without his consent, they were what he called demos at that point, it's still highly regarded in his large catalogue. A couple of great covers too, his dark rendition of Heartbreak Hotel, and a version of Pablo Picasso (The Modern Lovers) which he produced in it's original form. Enjoy!

01 Dance Of The Seven Veils
02 Helen Of Troy
03 Casey At The Bat
04 Guts
05 Don't Know Why She Came
06 Taking It All Away
07 Even Cowgirls Get The Blues
08 Darling I Need You
09 Mercenaries
10 Neighbour's Wife
11 Heartbreak Hotel
12 Pablo Picasso

Download samples, they're not included in Zip...

Thanks, this is great! A few of these tracks (1, 2, 3, 5 and 7 I think) were on the Even Cowgirls Get the Blues LP, but it's fantastic to have the full set. Do you have any more Cale of similar vintage?
