Big Star, What's Goin Ahn, Studio Outtakes '72-'73

Big Star is the band of the wonderful songwriter Alex Chilton, though it was formed by previous singer/songwriter Chris Bell who left during the recording of the 2nd album, Alex took the lead and has reformed the group recently. They're considered one of the first practitioners of what is now called Indie music, having such bands as Teenage Fanclub and R.E.M. professing them as a major influence over their music. They released three albums in the 1970s, the last being '78's Third/Sister Lovers, and were said to have taken a cue from the British Invasion acts of the '60's (Beatles/Who/Kinks), but personally I can't really see the Beatles influence.

These outtakes were taken from the sessions for the albums #1 Record and Radio City, and the shelved songs are better than alot of peoples actual output in my opinion.
